Interview with Anna from Le Blouson Noir

Part 2 of 2

(LBN) Have you ever performed in public?
(If yes, which concert was your best "souvenir"? And which one was the worst?)

(JN) Yes, I have performed live many times as a solo acoustic act, and as a full live band also.
It is always a fantastic feeling playing live. It is when you are at your most vunerable and at your most powerful at the same time.
The last band that I performed live with was The Great Unknown. I left that band in 2005.
Since then I have been doing mostly studio work with David.
But we are planning to do some intimate London gigs sometime this year.
One of my favourite memories of playing live was an early solo acoustic gig. I played two songs and got a standing ovation.
One of the worst was probably with The Great Unknown. I was drunk, out of tune, and belligerent. Ha ha!!

(LBN) If you could play with famous artists, Which would you choose?

(JN) Probably the usual suspects - David Bowie or John Lennon.
But I suppose I would also love to share a stage with Al Green, or Colin Blunstone, Dusty Springfield, or even Roberta Flack.
But I suspect it would be a teacher/student exercise for them.
Besides, I would be too much in awe to move.

(LBN) When you compose your songs, do you start with lyrics or music? How do you proceed?

(JN) For me the words and music are both created at the same time. I usually get the first line which would already contain the melody, and the rest of the song, give or take a few minor tweaks usually falls into place.
I don't like to spend too much time writing a song, because I believe the further away you are from the start of writing, the more likely you are of losing the original idea.

(LBN) Finally, can you share with us the five best songs you like?

(JN) Off the top of my head at the moment, in no particular order:
Cinnamon Girl - Neil Young
Sitting On A Dock Of A Bay - Otis Redding
Bridge Over Troubled Water - Roberta Flack
Something  - Beatles
These Boots Are Made For Walking - Nancy Sinatra

Subject to change. :D

(LBN) A last word, to conclude?

(JN) Remember kids, don't drink and drive. :D
