1. What type of music do you
generally listen to?
I
listen to various genres, but I guess my main sources at the moment are
from the fifties, sixties and early seventies. This includes Pop, Soul,
Blues, Jazz, Psychedelia, Glam, Kraut, and Prog Rock. I don’t generally
listen to much contemporary music, if at all. So I couldn’t tell you
who’s popular right now.
2. Who are your biggest
influences?
There
have been lots of influences, and everything I see and hear influences
me in some form, good and bad. So I try to only take notice of the good
ones. A few good ones that stick in the mind are The Beatles, David
Bowie, Neil Young, Otis Redding, Dusty Springfield, Carol King, and
Nina Simone.
I
tend to like artists who are either outstanding performers, or have
approached music in an interesting manner.
I
also enjoy a well written song, so I am interested in classic
songwriting techniques which all of these artists have used.
But
I believe it is a lost art-form, I don’t hear the techniques being used
anymore.
3. How would you describe Hey
girl?
Hey
Girl! is a four track EP that I made available as an introduction to
what I am doing. The concept for the music started in the summer of
2005. I had just left The Great Unknown (an alternative rock band) with
a feeling that I wanted to do music that was much more direct and
interesting, music that comes more from the heart.
The
songs are a product of what I was feeling at the time of writing
married with standard techniques and tricks I was rapidly learning from
the great classic songwriters.
4.
Where would you like to be in 5 years time?
I
guess in five years time I’d like to be recognized for what I am trying
to do with my music, and maybe with some turn of fortune making a
living out of it. Having to spend 3/4 of my life in a 9-5 job doing
something I have no interest in leaves a sour taste in the mouth. But I
don’t do that anymore.
5.
Any last words?
“It’s
vibe; it’s all vibe, nothing but vibe”

- This guy’s music is amazing. The Hey Girl EP has such a nice and
relaxing feel to it. The main theme is love and it the Ep shows Jason’s
amazing song writing skills. You take away the pain is my favorite song
off the album and its really upbeat. Buy Hey Girl! at http://www.jasonninnis.com/i_want_music.htm and check out
